Something new

So after much thought and encouragement from my friends I have decided to start writing a baking blog. This blog will be kept as a more personal one and everything on my other blog will be dedicated entirely to food and my love for it.

I want to be more adventurous in the kitchen and I have decided that I should blog about my new experiences so that some of you closet bakers may feel encouraged to try new things! The most important thing is that it doesn't matter what it looks like it's all about the taste! This is something I will always stand by.

So over the next week or so I will start creating my baking blog and have the first post done. I don't want to rush it as I really want it to look good. If I'm good at some recipes then I'll think about accompanying the blog post with a YouTube video.

My baking will never be serious I do it because I enjoy doing it and I really love it when people taste my food.

I mainly love baking cakes but as I said I want to be more adventurous so I will post a range of different dishes which you're free to have a go at yourself if you want!

Hope you all like this!

Foster The People- Supermodel

Firstly I'll start by saying thanks to NME for streaming the album for all us UK fans as we aren't able to buy the album till March 24th. I couldn't be more in love with this album even if I tried. I've waited so long for more music from Foster The People and I can tell you it was worth the wait.

We were first teased with a track from their upcoming album 'Coming Of Age' on New Years Eve with a 30 second snippet of the song. When the full song and video was released I was so excited at the prospect of new music from the band. I loved the song and it made me eager to here the rest of the album. Lucky for me I can finally get my hands on a copy of the album next week.

Foster The People are a band that will always have a special spot in my heart next to Two Door Cinema Club. When I went to their concert back in Manchester in 2012 with my best friend Hollie they were amazing. Instantly found a new love for their music (as if I wasn't already obsessed). But also I saw my then co-worker Rais there (it was fate really). He didn't even know my name and it's strange to think that's how our friendship started...and now he's my boyfriend. I guess I had a hunch 2014 was going to be a good year for me.

Another exciting thing about the band is that they are doing some shows in the UK. I shall be seeing them in Manchester and hopefully at Leeds Fest. Trust me seeing this band once is not enough!

So I have my favourite tracks off the album already; Coming Of Age, Are You What You Want To Be, Best Friend and Pseudologia Fantastica. You can say that Best Friend is my top track at the minute.

I just think this is the perfect album for driving and dancing. Seeing them live will be unreal and I'm sure the crowd will be pumped. Their sound has altered subtly from their previous album Torches, but every track sounds new and unique. I'm definitely glad they are back!

If you haven't given the album a listen yet or don't know where to stream it from then use the link below.

What are your thoughts on the album?

March Favourites

This month's favourites will be a mixture of random things that I am currently loving. They're not all new things but if I'm still loving them in March then they must be good.

TV Shows
1.Gogglebox
The new series started last night on Channel 4 and I am so glad it's back. This is one of my favourite shows and sadly I feel like you get to know the families on there so much that they become like your own. The way they watch TV is exactly how me and my family watch it. Steph and Dom are my favourite and I first watched them when I saw them on Four in a Bed. If you haven't watched Gogglebox then I suggest you go and watch at least an episode because you'll be hooked afterwards!

2. The Tomorrow People
I am slowly making my way through this series and although it has roughly the same storyline as every sci-fi/fantasy TV show for teens I still love it. I think it's a guilty pleasure of mine. The main character, Stephen, is incredibly attractive and luckily he is required for several topless scenes (thank god) so a must watch for us girls! It's about a group of people who have psionic powers that they have as a result of human evolution. They have powers called the 3 T's (Telepathy, Telekinesis and Teleportation). The series follows the lives of these people and about the battles they face in everyday life to reach this 'safe' place. If this is your type of thing then give it a go! You can watch it online.

3. The Smoke
A British drama made for Sky 1. Now the first episode shocked me as a lot was fit into a 45 minute programme (once you take adverts away). However, I stuck with it and I've just finished episode 4 and I'm hooked. I can't wait to watch the next one! Having a PJ day today has enabled me to get through the episodes today. The series follows firefighters and their daily lives. It focuses on the main firefighter 'Kev' who was involved in a bad fire in the first episode and how his life changes and he becomes used to his injuries. I won't tell you too much otherwise it won't shock you like it did me.

4. The Office
The boyfriend brought this over and has been trying to get me through the episodes. Now although I don't like to admit it to him it is quite funny. He has the box set so slowly we are making our way through it as he attempts to get me to watch all the things he loves that I have missed out on.

Movies
1. About Time
So although Rais is trying to get me to watch more of his stuff this is actually one of the best movies he could've picked for me. I love Rom-Com's even though I hate to admit it! This was the right amount of perfect and funny all rolled into one. So if you're looking for a cute film to curl up with your other half on the sofa then this could be the one!

Music
1. Ministry Of Sound: Anthems 90s
I've had this CD ages and I've uploaded it to my iPod and since I've been in the car a lot I rely on this! It has all my guilty pleasures on it and leaves me in a good mood and a craving to go out!

Baking
So this month I've been really busy baking lots and lots of cakes! Lemon Drizzle, butterfly buns and chocolate buns etc etc! I enjoy baking and then taking them round for people to eat which is what I've been doing for the last 2 weeks because of placement.

So I'll keep this month's favourites short and sweet! I'm back at Uni next week...yay.

Music Monday 3

Yes I am aware I have missed a few Monday's however I am back so let's see how long I can keep up with this!

This weeks playlist is a mixture of songs old and new that I have been listening to in the car because I've done a lot of driving recently so it's handy to have some songs I can blast out and have a sing to. We've been having some fab weather these last few days so yes some summery ones have crept in!

1. Duke Dumont feat Jax Jones- I Got U
2. Route 94 feat Jess Glynne- My Love
3. American Authors- Best Day of My Life
4. Sam Smith- Money On My Mind
5. Bombay Bicycle Club- Luna
6. Lana Del Ray- Blue Jeans
7. Arctic Monkeys- Arabella
8. Foxes- Let Go For Tonight
9. Two Door Cinema Club- Something Good Can Work
10. The 1975- Settle Down
11. Iggy Azalea feat Charli XCX- Fancy
(I don't know why I like this song but it's really catchy and I've been dancing around to this all day)
12. The Neighbourhood- Sweater Weather
13. Haim- If I Could Change Your Mind
14. Disclosure feat Mary J Blige- F For You
15. CHVRCHES- Recover
16. Dan Croll- From Nowhere
17. Chase & Status feat Ed Thomas- Blk & Blu
18. London Grammar- Hey Now
19. The Pretty Reckless- Heaven Knows
20. Ellie Goulding- Goodness Gracious

So this week's playlist is really mixed and I've been listening to a lot of dance tunes. Think this is trying to tell me I need a night out.

Lemon Cake and other adventures

Well this past week has been hectic! I started placement and I couldn't be happier! So that is probably why I haven't had much free time to write posts for my blog which is bad I know. If I had any spare time in the week that was usually spent with Rais watching movies or him watching the movie whilst I tried to stay awake (school is making me tired).

So it's Sunday and after babysitting last night till late I was hoping for a lie in but no I was awake at 6am (fab). After falling back asleep to 7.30am I decided to give up trying to sleep and watch YouTube videos and listen to music. After the family had left for my brother's rugby match I emerged from my room determined to make some pancakes that I had missed earlier in the week and bake 2 cakes (1 for the family and 1 for the staff room at school).

I made my pancakes (they were perfect of course). Worth the wait! Apart from the mass baking today I have had a nice relaxing day. After Saturday's busy antics I am pleased really. Yesterday I moved out of my flat and back home. I am happy to be closer to Rais and my family in Halifax but I don't know how I'll cope with family arguments ugh! Will also miss being closer to Jess and Megan.

Radio 1 has been the soundtrack to this wonderful weather today whilst I sit on the sofa in the kitchen with the back door wide open so I can see the sun. I think I've found my summer song already! Duke Dumont feat Jax Jones- I Got U. This will be the perfect tune for driving in the sun with the windows down and my hair flowing wildly. Puts me in a good mood.

Yes for once Moody Megan has been in a really good mood. This is unusual for a Sunday but no recently I've been a happy bunny. Yay!

Here's the Lemon Cake recipe I have been using easy enough and even if you don't have a loaf tin (I don't) just use to sandwich tins and split the mixture.

225g Caster Sugar
225g Unsalted Butter
225g Self Raising Flour
4 Eggs
1 lemon zest grated

Icing:
Juice of 1 and 1/2 lemons
85g Caster Sugar

Mix all the ingredients together for the cake and when your mixture is done add the grated lemon zest. Grease your tin or use greaseproof paper and pour mixture in. If in a sandwich tin cook for 30 minutes on 180 degrees in a fan oven. When done (check and leave for longer if not) place on a surface to cool slightly. Pierce the top with a skewer and then pour the icing over allowing it to sink in the holes and the sugar will crystallise and go crispy on top.

More posts to come this week as a lot has happened whilst I've been away!
